Isla Mujeres 2013

Every summer, whale sharks congregate in very large numbers in the waters around Isla Mujeres, Mexico to feed on the Bonito eggs floating at the surface. We joined a group of photographers led by Mauricio Handler for a few days of snorkeling with these gentle giants. Mantas and Mobula Rays also participated in the feast. We were astounded by the number of Whale Sharks present but also by the number of boats and snorkelers in the area. At one point, we counted 91 boats!! The sea conditions were rough making the photography challenging but the animals were very cooperative just swimming around gulping as many eggs as they could. An incredible experience!
